We became foster parents to help families and take care of children in need. Later we were able to adopt our kids from the foster system.
Pa'a Lima was born from our experience as foster parents and our desire to address the significant gap in support for youth transitioning from foster care to adulthood. Recognizing the vast needs of children from newborns to teens in foster care, we aimed to equip these young individuals with essential life skills and guidance. Through Pa'a Lima, we strive to empower these youth, helping them navigate the challenges of adulthood and fostering their independence and resilience as they embark on their life journeys.
Sharon has dedicated her career to addressing homeless and housing issues on the County of Kaua'i since 2006, bringing extensive experience as a grants manager, homeless liaison, and fair housing officer. In 2020, she transitioned to a non-profit agency as the Housing Director, where she oversees the county's inaugural Supportive Housing Project, which emphasizes client-centered case management through the Housing First model.
With over 18 years in the field, Sharon excels in facilitating meetings, managing contracts, and organizing outreach events aimed at supporting the unhoused population. She remains committed to professional development and is actively participating in various training opportunities while pursuing her degree to become a Licensed Social Worker.
Sharon's ultimate goal is to establish a safe, loving, and supportive housing program specifically designed for foster youth transitioning out of the system, ensuring they have the resources and stability needed to thrive.
